Franklin Lakes, NJ, USA – Bored sitting at home watching the same movies on Netflix? Looking for a new experience?

Then network with the Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce. The chamber is hosting its first-ever virtual networking event, “Cocktails & Connections,” on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at 7 p.m., on the Internet platform Zoom.

Cocktails & Connections is being held to give business owners and members of the public an opportunity to mingle with each other – virtually – during the COVID-19 quarantine period.

“This is a challenging time for many and we as a chamber want to provide the resources we can to both help our frontline workers and also to provide high-quality conduit for networking, even while people are sheltering at home,” said Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce President John C. Morley.

Cocktails & Connections will start with an ice-breaker event that will allow each person to share their screen for 60 seconds and talk about themselves and their companies.

Attendees are encouraged to create a PowerPoint slideshow with their headshots, company names, contact information, and a website link to the company website, LinkedIn page, etc.

This event is designed to help people build networking connections that can one day lead to referrals for them and help them find work and/or clients.

Attendees will then go into breakout rooms so people can have a more personalized experience. Cocktails & Connections will conclude by bringing everyone back into the same Zoom room.

“It’s important for the chamber to host networking events during the quarantine time because we need to be a part of the change that’s happening in society,” said Quan Sun, vice-president of the Young Professionals Network (YPN) for the Franklin Lakes Chamber of Commerce.

Cocktails & Connections is the first of several virtual networking events the chamber hopes to host in the future. Virtual networking events give business owners and others a chance to network during a time when people have limited exposure to each other because of social distancing, Sun said.

“We know that many businesses have had to shut down but with our virtual networking, there is the opportunity for people anywhere in the United States to potentially do business with each other either now virtually or by taking people’s information so they can connect with them after the quarantine is over,” said Morley.

Cocktails and Connections is free and open to the public. Business owners and those looking to network are encouraged to attend. And don’t forget the soda, water or alcohol. For this networking event, you’ll have to make your own drinks.
