From September 25th to 27th, 2019, the 20th World Knowledge Forum (WKF) was held at the Shilla Hotel and Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul, South Korea, with the theme “Knowledge Revolution 5.0: Perspicacity Towards Prosperity for All”.

After two years of preparation, the World Knowledge Forum (WKF) was officially launched in October 2000 with the goal of transforming innovative knowledge-based countries in a comprehensive manner, after the 1997 Asian financial crisis. It aims to bridge the knowledge gap through knowledge sharing and to bring global leaders together, to discuss the importance of knowledge in meeting the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world, and to provide a forum for balancing global economic growth and prosperity. Since the opening of the first Forum, which was on the theme “Shaping the New Millennium with Knowledge”, 4,028 global leaders from 73 countries have come to WKF to give keynote speeches, and 43,260 experts and professionals from different fields have participated in the discussions, making the World Knowledge Forum the largest knowledge festival in the world.

Permanent member of the State Council of China, Lin Yifu, former President of France, François Hollande, former Prime Minister of Finland, Esco Aho, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Dr. Fatih Birol, former UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, the founder of YouTube, Steve Chen, founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma, the President of Samsung Electronics, Joo Sun Choi, and the founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, were some of the high-profile delegates who attended this forum. Eva Foo, the found of Scry, was also invited to participate in the forum to discuss the application of blockchain finance with the United Nations Ban Ki-moon Foundation.

At the opening ceremony, South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in offered his congratulations and said: “With the new era of human knowledge, the theme of this year’s World Knowledge Forum ‘Knowledge Revolution 5.0: Perspicacity Towards Prosperity for All’ is very pertinent. Human beings should live in harmony with science and technology in the face of the 4th industrial revolution.” He also added, “In the past two decades, the World Knowledge Forum (WKF) has played an important role in maintaining domestic peace and prosperity, and hopes to become a platform for wider and higher-level knowledge exchange.”

With the development of science and technology, most major global summits focus on artificial intelligence, 5G and blockchain as core topics of discussion. Leaders from different fields have expressed their professional views and points in their respective fields. The CEO of AIG expressed his views on how to deal with the insurance industry’s core investment risks and to invest in innovative technologies. Mr. Chang Dae-hwan, President of the Maeil Business Newspaper (Maekyung Media Group) and the founder of the World Knowledge Forum, said that the spirit of the Knowledge Revolution 5.0 era was to seek human prosperity and harmony from new technologies. As a representative blockchain project, Scry.Info expressed its views on supporting more visible terminal payments and data validation smart contract services through the application of blockchain in finance, which is gaining prominence in South Korea’s commercial market.

With technological innovation and advancement, and combined with knowledge exploration and experience sharing, this forum is destined to be a success.
