Bangtuo Buddhist Sutra Stone Engraving Certified by WRCA as World’s Largest

On September 24, the Rangbala Festival, a sub-venue of the Sichuan Cultural Tourism Development Conference, was held in Bangtuo Stone Carving Park in Rongmuda Township, Rangtang County, Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. A collection of approximately 500,000 stone carvings of the Buddhist canon, covering an area of 694 square meters, has been certified by the WRCA as the largest of its kind in the world. 

Rangtang County is a county in the northwest of Sichuan Province, China, bordering Qinghai Province to the north. It is the westernmost county-level division of the Ngawa Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture.

Rangtang Buddhist sutra stone engraving is an ancient art. As can be seen from Bangtuo Monastery ruins, this artistry has been passed down for more than 500 years. To become a qualified inheritor for Buddhist sutra stone engraving, one must keep learning Buddhism, fine art, and stone engraving. 

Bangtuo Stone Carving Park is a national AAA tourist attraction. The loam balaBangtuo Stone Carving Park in Rangtang, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, was established in April 2017. It is located in Rongmuda Township, Rangtang county. The existing cultural relics include Lama pagoda and stone scriptures. 

Bangtuo Stone Carving Park is located on the Bank of zequ River to the north of rongmuda Township in the north of Rangtang County, 32km away from the county seat. Bangtuo temple in the area means “temple on the grassland” in Tibetan. Founded in the Yuan Dynasty, covering an area of 12,000 square meters, it was announced as the fifth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council in 2001. The long-standing Bangtuo Stone Carving Park is proud of its magnificent temples, rare stone scriptures, spectacular towers and beautiful landscapes, which can be called a treasure of Tibetan intangible cultural heritage culture.
