Edited by Robert Almada, the introduction states that Emilia was born in Mexico in 1919, but the family moved to Chicago when she was three years old. Although her native language was Spanish, she quickly learned how to speak English fluently. As an adult, she was to add two more languages, French and Italian. She married Ignacio Almada, whom she referred to as Nacho or Ig, and together they had eight children. When she was raising her family, her creative talents blossomed with writing, creating drawings made with pencil and dark and colored chalk, original paintings, sewing, knitting, and crocheting. Her writing works included the book titled “The Saga of Millie and IG” and “The Long Road Home,” where she has given a detailed account of both her life and the life with Igancio Almada. She highlighted how they met and how they started a family together.

The book is a celebration of her 99th birthday. Her children decided to take the short stories that she had written as well as her creative work, putting them into a book as part of memories.
